Summary
The term wicked refers to the story behind “The Wizard of Oz” with emphasis on the untold tales of Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West vis-a vis Glinda the Good Witch. Both Elphaba and Glinda study at Shiz University where they first meet. Elphaba happens to be green-skinned with great magic powers and belongs to the outcast class and thus seeks the Wizard. However, Glinda is lovely, ambitious and admired by many.
They both develop an aura of creativity that is constantly hindered by society and their own aspirations. But that only makes us more interested in the protagonist of the story, The Wizard of Oz, an intelligent man, albeit somewhat of a schemer, who does not reveal his full plan right away. This is the point where one Elphaba decides that she cannot stand in the shadow of the Wizard any longer, and dares to be called “the wicked witch”. It is also about Glinda how she chooses to win fame and power.
Cast
It can be said with confidence that the film has been “cast” stunningly; every actor thoroughly explores their character and leaves a mark behind. Here are the key players:
Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba: Erivo, having the voice and style that have made her famous, will impress the audience by a different Elphaba.
Ariana Grande as Glinda: Grande would be a good Good Witch with her singing and charming personality.
Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero: Known as one of the cast of “Bridgerton”, Bailey plays Fiyero who is the handsome and confused suitor of two witches.
Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible: Yeoh is a commanding figure that enhances her role as the head teacher of Shiz University.
Ethan Slater as Boq: Ethan Slater who is famous for his character in ‘Spongebaby Cried Outstage’ is directed at this character, Boq with a different spirit.
Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz: As a result of Goldblum’s eccentric style and enigmatic demeanor, he suits the part of the wizard rather well.
Peter Dinklage as Dr: Dinklage portrays such complicated personages convincingly and affectionately even in the role of a basic role, a professor.
Trailer
Earlier this year, the official teaser of ‘Wicked’ was made public and it has already received views in millions. The trailer delivers a brief presentation of the visual effects of the movie, for example, spectacular performances of songs, the struggle between the main characters in their close relationships, etc. The usefulness of the trailer is that it assures that the visual adaptation of the stage performance musical in a film is going to win over audiences and overdevelop itself.
Musical Numbers And Popular Songs
The screen version of “Wicked” leaves no stone unturned and therefore features the evergreen songs used in the Broadway production with the music written by Stephen Schwartz. Some of these classical musical numbers are:
- “Defying Gravity” : It sings out Elphaba’s feelings of self-actualization as she refuses to ‘dumb’ herself down. Instead, she chooses to accept herself as she is and actually fights against the Wizard.
- “Popular”: A very funny song sung by Glinda, where she explains her wish to get Elphaba more popular.
- “The Wizard and I”: A beautiful melancholy number sung by Elphaba in the hopes of someday meeting the illustrious Wizard, to create some change in the world.
- “For Good”: This is a remarkable Elphaba and Glinda duet where both try to come to terms with the fact that they will never meet again but instead illuminate the worth of each other and their relationship.
Cinematic Vision and Direction
The latest film to work on Jon M. Chu, who was already accomplished with films such as Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights, is the movie adaptation of the immensely popular musical Wicked. Chen’s working facilities are dazzling colors, mind-blowing dances, and most importantly, the storyline that matches the world of the Great Wizard of Oz.
The focus is on the factors that determine the quality of visual effects in “Wicked.” As these must be dealt with in order to transform many images of ‘Oz’ created in the Broadway Musical into a movie that tells the story from start to finish.
Release and Anticipation
The release of “Wicked” is endorsed not only by the fans of the Broadway musical, but also by those who will experience it for the first time. The great news is that we are able to see a large chunk of the story as well as character details and other aspects that may help the audience appreciate the rest of the film better than if it was one installment.
The first part of Wicked – a provocative twist to a classic – has its release date on November twenty-two, twenty twenty- four, while the second part shall be out of its closet in November twenty twenty-five.
