In January, we received some surprising news from Universal Pictures. Not only was a new addition to the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World film series being developed, but the screenplay was also ready, and the estimated date of cinema release was pointed towards 2025. More specifically July 2 in that year. The new work bears the title Jurassic World Rebirth, and it came together in a mad flurry to avoid missing a deadline for a release next July. Up until now nothing has been disclosed as focused plotlines however Universal did spill some minor plot and character outlines quite recently which makes it the perfect time to compile Everything We Know About Jurassic World Rebirth:
PLOT
One of the most fascinating aspects of this new Jurassic movie has to be the inclusion of a script written by David Koepp, the original writer of Jurassic Park, who has not been back to this franchise since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Having skipped 4 previous movies, Koepp’s return is to narrate, Here goes: Set Five Years After The Scene Of Jurassic World Dominion, Almost All The Planet’s Ecology Is Unfriendly To Dinosaurs.
The last few survivors can still be found in closed tropical biomes in which the climatic conditions are equal to those in which the dinosaurs flourished. The three largest animals in this biological system possess the secret to a unique medication, which will help save humanity in many miraculous ways. In this exhilarating new installment of this series, a fearless crew runs against time to collect genetic material from the three largest beasts that can be found in land and sea and sky.
They have brought on board paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Steve Brusatte as a dinosaur expert consultant. To make the dinosaur action as realistic as possible. That’s a job Brusatte also had on the previous movie, with him in paleontological modules consulting Robert M. C. Horner who worked on the six Jurassic movies to this day. It is however not clear on whether Horner is back in this one or has completely handed it over to Brusatte.
DIRECTOR
In Universal’s case, the two most profitable franchises are the Jurassic movies and the Fast & Furious series. This is why, whenever the studio is in a position to search for a director to attach to Jurassic World Rebirth and the process has to be done as fast as possible – they first called in someone who had worked on Fast and furious franchise – David Leitch, who directed Hobbs & Shaw for them.
Universal previously worked with Leitch on The Fall Guy who was about to doesn’t word climb the corporate ladder when they turned to him with the latest dinosaur movie. The reason was similar, it was a deal in early negotiations when Leitch and Universal decided that they were looking at the project over perspective from two different ends. Leitch walks away and not a week and a half later, Universal is gone, found a different director who has done block busters and working with large creatures – Gareth Edwards, the director of Monsters, Godzilla, Rogue One A Star Wars Story, the creator.
Edwards came on bail in the rushing days of february with filming expected to commence middle of the month of june.
CAST
On top of that, on the other hand while there is a new Jurassic World movie under the works there has been an announcement made that the previous lead actors from the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films won’t be returning in this sequel. Further, there are no characters similar to those played by Sam Neill, JeffGoldblum, and Laura Dern nor the ones played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
But this project and casting did not have time for loving task for a long while, so Edwards and Universal decided to start making offers to well-known names. Colman Domingo from ‘Fear the walking dead’ and Dev Patel from ‘Monkey Man’ were at some point alleged to have made the wish list but ended not making it to the cast. Glen Powell of Twisters was given a part in the movie but refused it, stating: “Jurassic is among my top movies, its something I have dreamt of doing.
Its something I have wanted to do since childhood. I am not making that picture as it was explained to me this is a project and I replaced several rewrite hee and there and was like, oh my god, my use in this film is not going to be any good. Exciting, it’s a fantastic script. The film is going to bust whatever the hell this is. It isn’t about this. It’s about selecting where you will satisfy an audience and where you will satisfy yourself.”
Some of the actors who accepted the offers include Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) Mahershala Ali (Green Book) Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton) Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) Luna Blaise ‘Manifest’ on the other hand however, had to ‘beat out a number of actors’ to get her role according to Deadline. David Iacono from The Summer I Turned Pretty, child actress Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Béchir Sylvain who played Diarra from Detroit, Ed Skrein of Deadpool fame are also in the supportive cast.
When asked by Variety about her reasons for doing the film, Johansson said: ‘Because I am a huge fan of Jurassic Park. It is the first movie I have ever seen in cinema. It was so good that I still remember it so well even at this age. It was such a revelation, such a different experience that I was completely blown away, It is impossible to say how full of emotions I am.
The script is just great. It was written by David Koepp who is writing again after almost 30 years and writes with so much zeal for the subject. For more than 10 years, I have been trying to penetrate this franchise in any way possible. I’m like, ‘Okay, let me die in the first five minutes! I can be devoured by what ever! I will even serve food on the set!’ I will do anything for it. And the fact that it has happened in this way at this time is just plain crazy.’ Bailey shared to V Magazine, “I am on a suuuuuper long vacation in the jungle, pretending to escape from fake dinosaurs…’” There was even an image in the newspapers of Johansson wearing one of these dresses. The majority of these campaigns took place ahead of major releases.
This included Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and Peter Jackson’s King Kong for MakesIt another standardised session, Often while attending be_screenalls, “They sent me underwear which was precisely what I needed at one point,” Bailey recalls…Um, no, I’m filming Jurassic Park. Well, I may state that this is written by David Koepp who did the original. It almost feels like it is within their reach to bring it back to the level of success that the original sustained. Jurassic Park was the first flick which I watched with my entire clan, and I was quite little so I was horrified.”
Jurassic veteran Jeff Goldblum who worked alongside Johansson in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City gave her this advice: “Don’t get eaten, unless you want to – I love you.”
CHARACTERS
A Universal launch stated that Johansson portrays “meticulous covert operative Zora Bennett, hired to head a team of experts on an undercover operation to retrieve genetic material from the three largest dinosaurs on the planet. However, Zora’s mission collides with a family on a boating trip who are caught in the middle of a dinosaur attack and in doing so find themselves on an island that has a dark secret that has been buried for years.’’’
Duncan Kincaid, the most trusted team leader of Zora. Ali takes on the role of Duncan Kincaid, the most trusted team leader of Zora. Bailey intakes the role of paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, Friend is a Pharma executive Martin Krebs and Garcia-Rulfo is Reuben Delgado, the father of the survivors of the shipwrecked family. Blaise, Iacono and Miranda portray Reuben;s family while Velge, Sylvain and Skrein play the roles of Zora and Krebs’s crew members.
PRODUCTION
Jurassic World Rebirth commenced shooting in Thailand on June 13th, and the crew remained there until July 16th; Bangkok, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and the Huai To waterfall, which is a part of the Khao Phanom Bencha National park in Krabi province were some of the shooting locations. Filming of the scenes at the waterfall reportedly consumed a whole week.
In addition to Thailand, Malta and U.K. have also been hosting the ongoing filming of the movie at studios. The production was further anticipated to provide additional $18 million of economic impact to Thailand, through rentals of equipment, accommodation, hiring of venues, transport and catering services. It was also expected to look for local funding through Thailand’s 20% production expenditure rebate scheme. That scheme seeks international productions that have a budget of not less than $2.75 million in the country.
